Pickled Fruit
How to make summer everlasting? In this August month of farmer market abundance, we are focusing on the season’s best summer fruit . We want to keep enjoying summer fruit as long as possible. This month we are bringing you a variety of ways to use pickled fruit. What is pickled fruit? These fruit are preserved in a vinegar base which will bring out a distinct flavor in themselves, but you can also add additional ingredients such as cinnamon, honey, and sugar. Pickled fruit can be combined to create a fruit salad, smashed to make a sandwich spread, use as a sangria maker, or to elevate your charcuterie board.
When entertaining, impress your guests with an elaborate charcuterie board by adding a few mason jars full of assorted pickled fruit. The pickled fruit will bring a bright color to your board and add a burst of flavor when accompanied with a variety of cheeses, breads, and meats. This country look is perfect for a backyard gathering, a picnic, or a centerpiece at your table during your party!
Another way that we are elevating the pickled fruit is combining them in our favorite summer dining ware to make a beautiful fruit salad. The bowl featured here, a handcrafted ceramic bowl by Chicago maker Karen Patinkin available at The Storied Table is a great way to display your pickled fruit. The intricate design of the bowls and the bright colors of the fruit give you a feeling of everlasting summer.
At EC we are calling this next idea a “Make your own Sangria Party.” Whether it’s for a party of one for a relaxing day or with a gathering of friends, this is the perfect way to bring your friends and family together. Use the pickled fruit to add to your favorite mixer for refreshing sangria. A wooden board functions both as a cutting board for fruit as well as a great way to transport your Sangria Party outside and enjoy the summer weather.
Lastly, another great way to use your pickled fruit is by creating a spread on your summer sandwich. Pickled smashed blackberries become a great fruit to use as a spread on a baguette, because the consistency is a lot like a jam. Pair with your favorite cheese and meat and you have a light, delicious summer outdoor meal.
