DesignMarch in Iceland

Wendy and I have just arrived in charming Reykjavik, Iceland to attend our very first DesignMarch conference.   This year’s theme focuses on design-centered innovation, exploring the innovation power of design, creative leadership and how to harness its potential for increased liveability and sustainable futures.

The event kicks off with DesignTalks at the artfully designed Harpa Music Hall. The speaker line-up is amazing, and includes Jonathan Barnbrook, a renowned British graphic designer who collaborated with the late, great David Bowie on his past four album covers, and the Mayor of Reykjavik!  We look forward to sharing more about the individual talks here on our blog when we return.

We’re most excited about DesignMatch, which essentially is a “speed dating” event – matching designers and buyers.  It’s like Tinder for design!  We wanted to “swipe right” for all of the designers whose portfolios we fawned over, but were only able to choose a handful.  We are hoping to find some great new tabletop décor for our second collection.

And last but not least, we’ve been checking out the restaurants and making plans for our meals!  We are looking forward to visiting Myran + Mar, a creative hotspot where design meet cuisine (our favorite combo!), Grillmarkadurinn, a popular farm to table restaurant in a country that is able to grow very little, and Hradlestinn, serving delicious Indian street food.

We look forward to sharing all of our finds with you.  Please be sure to follow us on social media for live updates throughout the show!

Takk!  (Thank you in Icelandic)
